After briefly playing at school I took the violin up again when my children were small as something to keep my brain working. I took the Associated Board of the Royal Music Grades 1-5 violin and Grade 5 theory. Since then I have studied music through continuing education classes at the University of Sussex and most recently with the Open University.
After playing in a local classical orchestra for several years I rediscovered a love of folk music which was what had inspired me to take up the violin in the first place. Currently, I play light classical music in a 'palm court orchestra', folk music in a quartet and am the music organiser for a folk orchestra. The folk orchestra plays folk music from around the world and performs at barn dances, garden parties and other community events. I am also involved in folk dancing groups and have recently joined the Barn Dance Band: Square The Circle Folk Dance Band.
I have been teaching for several years now.
